What Is The Booksellers’ List?
The Booksellers’ List is a seasonal collective marketing program created by CIBA to spotlight 20 new books that independent booksellers across Canada believe deserve broader visibility. Titles are nominated for the list by CIBA members and selected based on enthusiasm and relevance to Canadian readers.
As CIBA notes, “In a time of shrinking book media, indie bookstores can use their collective strength to ensure readers have a new way to discover a diverse range of books, recommended by Canadians for Canadians.”
For NetGalley publishers, this is a powerful opportunity to have your titles endorsed and elevated by Canadian booksellers who know what resonates in their communities!
How NetGalley Helps Publishers Connect with The Booksellers’ List
CIBA verified Canadian Booksellers can now nominate books for The Booksellers’ List directly within their NetGalley accounts. This means your titles can be put forward for consideration by booksellers while they’re actively engaging with your content via reviews and other feedback on NetGalley. No changes to your account are necessary to start receiving these nominations!
Here’s how it works:

- On the Opinions page, they’re asked: “Do you want to nominate this title for The Booksellers’ List?” Then, they can simply select “Yes” to nominate it from directly within their account.
- These votes are shared with CIBA and considered quarterly for seasonal lists.
This new type of feedback offers your books a valuable way to gain support from booksellers who are trusted voices in the Canadian market. Their votes not only contribute to The Booksellers’ List, but also strengthen your titles’ positioning within the independent retail community.
Here are more tips to interact with this important section of the community on NetGalley:
- Booksellers who are CIBA members can add their member ID to their NetGalley Profile. When they request your titles, a CIBA badge will appear next to their name, making them easier to identify as engaged, professional readers. Keep an eye out for this badge as they request your books!
- Consider Auto-Approving CIBA validated members within your account now! Giving these booksellers broad access to your public titles makes it as easy as possible for them to interact with your books.
